As you will all be painfully aware the situation in the Ukraine has resulted in families young and old having to leave their homes and seek refuge across Europe. Families across East Sussex have offered incredible support and Ukranian guests are arriving regularly.Helping Hands is one of the many voluntary groups who are working with East Sussex County Council, Rother and Rother Voluntary Action and local residents to ensure we provide a local and welcoming response. We held a well attended meeting in the village and we have set up a local database of things and services which might be helpful to arriving families such as, toys, clothing, advice on bank accounts and counselling. All of these can be accessed by contacting the phone holder on 07726592739.We have also set up a Facebook page for hosts and arriving families to share information, and are regularly posting advice. We also have a list of links and useful information which is available hereFamilies who have arrived have started to meet with one another informally and we hope they form friendships and help one another. We have been supporting Rother Voluntary Action to ensure families have access to much needed funds when they come into the village. The Darvell community have organised a village BBQ in June and the school have had a fund raising cake sale for the national Red Cross fund, to which villagers have generously given. You will no doubt have seen the lovely flags flying in the sun, which will joined by Jubilee flags, making a visual show of solidarity. We will continue to support families as they arrive and will reach out to village residents if we need anything, as this village is always great in times of need.
